The 600-acre Edelweiss coffee estate is located in Oldeani, Tanzania, & has been in the Vohora family since the end of World War II. The estate is perched on the slopes of the Ngorongoro Caldera, the largest unbroken caldera in the world. The caldera is a protected wildlife refuge for the endangered black rhino & is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
In recent years the Vohora family has made significant farm improvements including intercropping macadamia trees for shade & income diversity. Mill innovations have also vastly improved water management & quality control from picking to exporting. More than 50 full time employees have access to housing & land to grow food-crops for their families.
I roasted this coffee to a medium roast to highlight the subtle apricot, the rich, honey sweetness, & the hint of lime for a bright & refreshing finish—brilliant!
